Job Description

Teacher Trainers will either work in the English medium schools in the Kathmandu Valley or in Nepali speaking schools in rural areas. Flexibility and an ability to keep things as simple as possible are the skills most needed for this work in Nepal.

Primary Teachers will be expected to teach over a small range of grades. You don’t need experience within the British Curriculum. What we do need are teachers who are flexible, who have a love for children and education, and who are willing to teach within a cross-cultural setting.

Secondary Teachers will need to be able to teach at all class levels throughout KISC according to the KISC curriculum, IGCSE syllabus and AS syllabus (similar to A-levels in the UK). Teachers may be asked to teach other subjects such as Personal and Social Education, as well as offer an ‘elective’ e.g. a double period of sport, craft. Teachers are also expected to be involved in extra-curricular activities and events. Often a teacher is the only one responsible for that subject and many of the responsibilities of a Head of Department fall to that teacher e.g. department budget, resource ordering and development, correspondence. Each year several staff are asked to be Homeroom teachers (Class / Form teachers) and applicants should be prepared to be asked to take on this responsibility if appropriate.

See www.cie.org.uk for the syllabuses for IGCSE and AS level examinations.
