KISC is a K-13 international school in Nepal with both Middle States Association (MSA, American) and Cambridge International Examinations (British) accreditations. Established by United Mission to Nepal (UMN) and International Nepal Fellowship (INF) in 1987, KISC has become a reputed international Christian school in Nepal. In 2007, the Nepali NGO, Human Development and Community Services (HDCS), was awarded the ownership of KISC by the Government of Nepal’s Ministry of Education.
a message from the kisc directors
These words, taken from a prayer attributed to Oscar Romero, remind us as Directors of KISC that we are God’s workers here at KISC for a season. Our desire is to play a role in all God is doing here in Nepal, bringing Kingdom values of love, grace, community, justice and excellence. We aim to do this by providing excellent education for both the International Mission Community and the Nepali School Communities we work with.
Our role as Directors, like those who have gone before us, is to serve. Serve the students and their families, serve the Nepali schools, serve the teaching staff, EQUIP staff and operations staff who are entrusted to us for this season.
The history of KISC stretches back nearly 30 years to Alan and Margaret McIlhenny who established a study centre to ensure that families did not have to leave Nepal when their children reached secondary education. Through the more recent history of leaders such as Judith Ellis who helped establish the teacher training program of EQUIP, and the KISC Primary school which will celebrate its 10th birthday this year.
We can also look to the future, our vision of expanding the EQUIP work to include a Teacher Education College (KISC TEC), a new, long term site shared with our owners, HDCS, and a role in supporting international education in Pokhara through working with Pokhara Primary Study Centre (PSC).
As workers it is our time to play a part in all that is happening here, knowing that the master builder, God, is overseeing it all, and he knows the long view. Whatever the long view holds we pray that KISC will always be seen as a living witness of Christ’s love through excellent education. As the Romero prayer concludes:
From 1987 until today, we have changed, we have learned and we have grown.
The people of KISC are what make this place great. Get to know the friendly faces of our school.
Mission, vision values
We are passionate about living according to our mission, vision and values.
We are fully accredited international school, both in the UK and the US.
