For many years KISC has been looking for a new site to invest in long-term. The hope had been to buy land but with prices in the region of US $5-10 million a suitable site, it was always going to be a major challenge to raise sufficient funds.
KISC has outgrown its current rented site and the lack of security in renting property has been an ongoing challenge during KISC’s history and this was highlighted further recently with the demand to vacate our sports site.
A 25-year lease has been signed for a land from a partner organization 7km away from the existing campus.
The site is 20 ropani (2.5 acres) of land with ancillary building. The current building fund of 62m NRS (US$ 650,000) together with budget savings will total around US$1,000,000 that can go towards building purpose built, earthquake resistant academic buildings for the Primary and Secondary schools. The project will be phased and developed as funds allow.
Phase 1: This will involve the conversation and renovation of two buildings to provide the Primary department in one building and support accommodation in the other. A new three storey Secondary block will be built. The cost of Phase 1 is US$1,500,000 The target date for moving to the site is December 2017.
The following phases will include an extension of the new academic block to accommodate Primary and provide a new school hall.
Around US$500,000 is needed to complete Phase 1 and ensure KISC can move in December when the leases on the current building expire.
