Secondary Curriculum

In Grades 6-10, students complete a compulsory general education. In Grades 11 and 12, students are able to specialise in their studies.

The medium of instruction at KISC is English.

In line with our philosophy, it is expected that students will participate in all areas of the curriculum offered at KISC. Attendance for all courses is expected to be a minimum of 90%. If it falls below this figure, significant work will be missed from a course. KISC expects parents to ensure their child or children attend all possible classes and complete all assessment tasks to maximise their learning opportunities and therefore their exam results. An absence due to genuine illness is, of course, understood.

Holidays and travel during the school terms should be minimised as much as possible. School holidays are the appropriate time to travel in order to minimise disruption to our students’ educational progress.

GRADES 6-8

In Grades 6 to 8, students study the Cambridge Checkpoint Curriculum in Mathematics, English, Science and ICT. All students study Art, Geography, History, Music, Personal Social & Health Education, Physical Education and Religious Education.

For English Language Learners, we offer the opportunity for them to continue studying their native language. We offer classes taught by our KISC teachers in Nepali and Korean. For those students from other language backgrounds, we support those parents or other organisations to teach their own children in their first language.

We also provide Academic English support for English Language Learners where it is required.

Those students whose first language is English must study a second language. They can choose between French, German, Spanish, Korean, and Nepali.

Students who need additional support due to learning needs will have individual study support lessons where possible.

GRADES 9-10

KISC provides a general education for all students in Grades 9 and 10. Students work towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). Students must study a minimum of seven IGCSE subjects to meet our general education requirements. The two-year IGCSE courses culminate in externally assessed assessment by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CAIE).

Additionally, all students study Physical Education, Religious Education plus Personal, Social, Health and Economics.

GRADES 11-12

Students work towards Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level (AL) CAIE qualifications. Some subjects are studied over one year and some over two years, but all AS subjects are studied over one year and AL courses over two years. The AS course makes up the first half of an AL qualification. All courses culminate in external assessment by the University of Cambridge Assessment International Examinations.

UNIVERSITY PREPARATION

KISC provides career counselling to aid students in finding the best university or college for their future studies. We also support students as they apply to universities and other organisations for both admission and scholarships.
