KISC has several sports facilities including a futsal pitch, basketball court gym (weights and aerobics) a large hall, and a large grass sports field used for:
Ultimate frisbee
Volleyball
Netball, and
Cricket
We also have two table-tennis tables which provide huge amounts of enjoyment for both students and staff. And, we have access to a local swimming pool both for swimming lessons and competitions.
Inter-house competitions
During the year, students participate in inter-house sports events. These are always hotly anticipated and exciting days where students are encouraged to wear their house T-shirts and cheer their house on. Amidst the intense competition, it is amazing to see the camaraderie between the houses with students all rooting for and supporting each other, regardless of which house they are in. The competitions include:
Zuala Cup (Basketball) - (Makalu)
Swimming Gala - (Dhaulagiri)
Football Tournament - (Annapurna)
Athletics - (Makalu)
The winning house for each competition is awarded a trophy; 2024-25 winners are shown in brackets.
Inter-school competitions
As well as KISC being a regular participant in inter-school competitions, our PE Department is continually looking to develop further mutually beneficial relationships with other schools across Kathmandu.
NISSA League
The Nepal Inter-School Sports Association, (NISSA), is the main inter-school competition, focusing on basketball and football for both boys and girls. Considering the pool of players KISC has compared to ther local schools, it continues to punch above its weight. In the 2024-25 season, this was exemplified in the achievements of the boys’ basketball and girls’ football teams where they came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Boys Basketball
Our boys delivered an exceptional performance in the basketball! Starting with a semi-final against Premier School in a unique 12-minute, two-quarter format, KISC initially trailed 19-12 in the first quarter. But the boys made an incredible comeback, equalizing the score at 23 points each, and forcing overtime. With a final score of 30-25, KISC secured the victory to reach the final.
Despite the boys determined efforts in the final, KISC fell short by just four points ending the game 32-36. Finishing as runners up to a much more experienced Ullens team is a fantastic achievement and shows how far the team has come in a year, especially as the boys finished fourth last year.
Makalu House won the 2024-25 Athletics trophy
Girls Football
The girls were straight into a semi-final against Ratobangala School. Despite KISC having having more possession, more chances and more shots at goal, we were undone by one good shot and lost 1-0.
In the playoff match for third place we played Ullens. Again, KISC was the more dominant team, but this time we managed to secure a 2-0 win, finishing in 3rd place. This equalled our 2023-24 finish, but the team excelled in the pool matches, going unbeaten all the way to Finals day.
Both teams are a huge credit to KISC, showcasing exceptional teamwork, resilience, dedication and skill. This was demonstrated by KISC being the only school to podium in both events!
